2009 SWIM ACROSS THE LAKE

 

The 12th annual “Swim Across the Lake” was held on August 6th. It was a very successful event with forty two swimmers participating this year. All swimmers received a participation Frisbee and enjoyed the hot dogs and refreshments on the beach. The Swim raised almost $1100.00 this year (see financial statement below). As you may be aware, we have purchased two new swim floats with monies raised in the past. The two new floats have been getting lots of use. As well, I was able to locate our missing slide and it has been returned to Beswick Park.

 

At this point, there does not seem to be any future items under consideration that have a direct impact on children another than the swim lessons mentioned below. SACA is currently considering other ways of spending the monies raised by the “Swim”. In discussion with Carol Milligan, we are going to try to have swim lessons at the lake next year if we can find an instructor. This would be a good use of our funds if we can find a suitable instructor. If you know of anyone who might be willing to fill this paid role, please email me at fkhead@telus.net.

The Swim

 

Although the Swim is not considered a race, we do time the swimmers just for fun. The swim times were much faster this year! Good job! It is important to note that our first place swimmer, Heather Shedden beat previous years’ best time by 5+ minutes. The top 10 swimmers are listed below with their swim times. Thank you to all the swimmers who participated this year. You all did a great job!

Next year’s swim will take place on Friday, August 6th which is the Friday after the 2009 Summer Sizzler. The change from Thursday to Friday was necessary because there will be a special picnic at the Collings’ mansion on Thursday, August 5th, 2010 to celebrate its 100th Birthday.
